Lieutenant General Ahmad AmirAhmadi

Assieh Ale Ahmad

Son of Cossack brigadier general Naqi Agha, Ahmad AmirAhmadi was born in Tehran, about 1884. He studied in Eftetahieh and Tarbiat schools, and then he attended Cossack school and became second sergeant of cavalry and a sergeant major.

AmirAhmadi was a member of guard officers of Majlis at the time of the siege of Majlis. He participated in the clashes of the government forces with Sheikh Mahmud Varamini and Nayeb Hossein Kashi. During the First World War he was in charge of guarding the Russian and the British consuls in Kermanshah and brought them safely to Hamedan. So he became captain and the forth class order of “Anna” was offered to him by the Russian government.

He was one of the supporters of Reza Khan and Seyyed Ziaaddin Tabatabai. He was the commandant of central and Tabriz cavalry, and after the coup he was promoted brigadier general.

With changes in the army, the new army had five divisions, and major general AmirAhmadi became the commandant of the west division and invaded Lorestan to suppress the tribes. Upon success, he was offered the Zolfaqar order, the highest order of the army.

He became the chief of the police in 1925, and keeping his capacity, he went to Tabriz to establish peace and order in Azerbaijan. In the coronation ceremony of Reza Shah, he was the bearer of the royal mace.

AmirAhmadi became the first and only lieutenant general of Iran in 1929. However, after a while he was disfavored and was dismissed from all his ranks. Again, Reza Shah consoled him and made him the military governor of Tehran in September 1941. He was in charge of the office for breeding horses.

Following the departure of Reza Shah from Iran, AmirAhmadi became the minister of interior in Foroughi’s cabinet, and then in Qavam-os-saltaneh and Soheili’s cabinets he was the minister of war. Military governor of Tehran, commandant of the central garrison and the inspector of army were among his many responsibilities. After his retirement he entered the Senate as an appointed senator. He died in 1965 because of cancer.
