Seyyed Mohammad Mohit Tabatabaee was born in June 16 1902 in Zavvareh. He began his education in Haj Hassan's old style school from 1908 to 1915. He continued his education in Lotf Ali Khan Tarshizi's school 1918-1919, and in Kasegaran school from 1920-21. In 1922 he retumed to Zavvareh and taught at Sadat elementary school. One year later he went to Darolfonun to continue his studies. Then he entered the school of law. In 1926 he was employed in the ministry of education and was sent to Khuzestan as a headmaster and teacher of a high school. In 1930 he returned to Tehran and until 1941 he taught history and geography in Darolfonun, the officer's faculty and the teacher training school.

 

In 1934 he became a member of Ferdousi's millennium congress and was appointed the headmaster of Sharaf and Marefat schools. In 1937 was appointed the managing editor of ministry of educations̓ journal. In 1941 he was engaged in teaching in the music school, and at the same time was the chief editor of the music journal.

 

In 1942 he founded Mohit journal and taught in different schools from 1942-1949. Then became technical inspector of the ministry of education. In 1950 again he published the Mohit journal. From 1949-1951 he was the cultural counselor of Iran's embassy in Delhi and therefore he went to Iraq, Syria and Lebenan holding the same office throughout these countries. In 1958 he retired from government services and from 1959-1978 he was in charge of programs known as boundaries of knowledge which were broadcasted from Radio Iran.

 

In 1976 the National University of Iran granted him honorary doctorate. In 1978 the society for the natural works granted him a reward for his researches and the contributions. Among his main works we may refer to: Seyyed Jamaladdin Assad Abadi and the awakening of the East, A Collection of Mirza Malkam Khan's Works, The Developments of Governments in Post Islamic Iran, Justice in Iran from the fall of Sasanids to the Rise of Constitutional Revolution.

 

Mohit Tabatabaee after a life long activities on intellectual fields died in 1992.
