The pictorial newspaper, Chehre-Nama was founded in
Egypt, Alexandria under the management of Abdol Mohammad
Esfahani entitled Moaddab-os-Saltaneh and its first issue
was published with lytography in 16 pages and in “Vaziri”
size in the last day of…. Its annual subscription was as
follows: Alexandria, Qatar and Egypt, 3 Rials, Iran’s
territorials 4 Tomans, the Ottoman territorials 4 Majidi,
Britain and India 10 Rupees, Caucasia of Turkestan 8 Menat,
Europe and China 20 Francs.
The price of advertisement was 2 Francs per line and for
its reprinting, one should refer to office and the price
would be taken in advance and if person did not want its
reprinting, the original one would be returned to him
under the title of Chehre-Nama, the phrase of "The
illustrated, Free and without titles" has come and its
publication's interval has been introduced as "Temporary,
3 times monthly and afterwards weekly".
The first year of Chehre-Nama ended with the publication
of issue No. 24 dated…. And the first issue of the second
year which was No. 25 was published in …. In the second
year the characteristics of the newspaper such as printing
and the size of pages and the way of printing were like
the first year. The second issue of the second year dated
. Also published in Alexandria but afterward, the other
issues of it, e.g. the third issue of the second year and
thereafter were published in Qairo.
The contents of Chehre-Nama after the table of contents
and the editorial were the news of Iran and the world and
different essays.
At the beginning of brilliant appearance of Chehre-Nama
the outbreak of cholera in Iran led to large harms to the
newspaper.
The arrest of Chehre-Nama in the frontiers of Iran and
prevention of its enterance to Iran by the order of
Ein-ol-Dowleh in the middle ….. largely damaged the
newspaper and finally by the mediation of the late
Roshdieh, the newspaper released from arrest. The fire and
the lack of printing equipments in Alexandria caused the
transfer of the newspaper to Qairo and the period of
journalism of its director began there.
Chehre-Nama was founded in Egypt by the directory of Haj
Mirza AbdolMohammad (after his death, the newspaper was
published by his son Moaddab Zadeh Irani, and the
newspaper was published in…. The first issued was
published in
This issue was published in 16 pages in "Kheshti" size and
with typography like previous. Also in the first page of
this issue, after the list of contents, there is a report
about the transfer of the newspaper's office from
Alexandria to Qairo. In regard to its contents, Qairo's
Chehre-Nama was alike Alexandria's one and its editorial
had been written under the title of "political" and the
rest were Iran and foreign news and the translations of
foreign news agencies and world's affairs. Chehre-Nama was
published for 32 years and after the death of its
director, the newspaper was given to his son, its almost
40 years period is the complete and detailed history of
Iran and the world for half of a century. While the
various photos of Iranian and non-Iranian statesmen and
also of different buildings have been gathered in it.
The importance of Chehre-Nama is in printing a subject in
blaming Ahmad Ali Shah in a period of Iran history which
is known as minor desposition.
